Battles Atlas Video: Spinning glass cube full of dorks
I’ve finally located a band that has more gear than my own, but in fairness my current musical project only includes two people, if we had three more i have no doubt we could take them in a gear war. The New York band Battles are on the cusp of bands incorporating electronics and computers into their overall sound (well in fairness the river has been running it’s course for a while now). My only complaint with Battles are the vocals…which seem out of place occasionally, and just plain unnecessary. This seems to be something that plagues many good instrumental bands, as it seems to be a constitutional truth that you will connect with more audience members if you have a singer…no matter what they are singing. HolyFuck have a similar sound sans vocals, however they wear the “We don’t use computers patch” front and center, and tend to be more of a groove and lock band (Trans Am are probably kings of Groove and Lock, and yeah i made that term up consider it my greatest contribution to musical history). This is a fun video featuring a flying cube full of our happy computer assisted band members hopping merrily along to the latest release “Atlas” from their Warp Records release “Mirrored”.
