Dosh – The Lost Take

February 16th, 2007

We just saw Dosh perform here live in Tucson at the great old Solar Culture art space. He really has to be seen live to fully appreciate his genius. He loops multiple things live (with some that are pre recorded) to create his complex pieces. The really great thing about Dosh is his use of organic noise, it really gives a human feel to his robot rock…Oh yeah he also plays with that Andrew Bird guy. Dosh (on tour now)

Boris: Pink

February 16th, 2007

Pink was released in Japan in 2005, and in 2006 it was unleashed to the US on Southern Lord Records. Boris is a Japanese band that is of course aptly named after a Melvins song. They generally produce slow mettalic durge type stuff, but Pink has some really ripping uptempo stuff. We are posting “Woman of Screen” for your listening pleasure. Head over to Southern Lord to listen to more and order Pink! It rocks.

Deerhoof! Friend Opportunity

February 15th, 2007

Friend opportunity is the latest (and the ninth!) album from Deerhoof. This is a new slimmed down Deerhoof (down to a trio), and the album has in sections a softer sense to it. They still retain their original chaotic approach to songwriting, so you can never really predict exactly where the car is going at any time. The first song (“Perfect Me”) alone makes this album entirely worth it. They are on tour now so go out and support them.

Thee More Shallows: More Deep Cuts

February 14th, 2007

With a new album due to drop April 24th on the ever expanding simply awesome Anticon label, now is a great time to visit some other stuff from this really talented san francisco group. “More Deep Cuts” is a great album filled with deeply emotional songs steeped in excellent studio production. While the lyrics are a tad on the depressing side sometimes that’s what it takes to dig out a really beautiful piece of art.
