Tuli Kupferberg! Armaments Fair

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

I was first introduced to Tuli via the Fugs records. The Fugs were an avante mix of chaos, beat poetry, absurdity, and politics. They were a really crazy bunch of pretty intelligent fellas. Tuli continued on, and released a pretty interesting record on the Shimmy Disc label in the 90’s. He usually sings his compositions, and has been posting some Youtube videos recently. He is quite old, but it sure is great to see him, still full of piss and vinegar, kicking at the pricks. Here he performs his parasong about the defense “industry” entitled Armaments Fair to the tune of Scarborough Fair. Thank you Tuli for your vision and your unyielding commitment!

Eric Royer: THE one man band

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

C’mon you know he’s the best! I do anyway, I’ve known Mr. Royer for quite some time, and not only is he the baddest banjo picker I know, he does this completely amazing one man band gig. You can see him in the warmer weather out on the streets of Boston where he currently resides. He made all of the modifications to the instruments so he could play them with his feet and change key etc. Check his website for upcoming gigs, and pick up one of his cd’s. We miss you out here in the west buddy!

Put da money in da bucket!

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Check out this mad cat as he bangs away on his custom drum kit with the kind of precision and skill only a guy who sits in the subway all day jamming could possibly be in possession of. I think my favorite part of the kit is the sneaker which (almost) keeps it all from sliding away from him. It takes a turn for the awesome when he busts into the ton loc classic “wild thing”, and then segways nicely into what can only be an original number…”Put Da Money in Da Bucket”. Bound to be a number one hit.

John Fahey - In Christ There Is No East Or West

Friday, March 30th, 2007

So I was digging around youtube and uncovered this old gem of John Fahey playing a tv appearance from 1969. Much more than an incredible guitar player, he was such a beautiful composer, and really paints a picture that evokes Americana at it’s finest. I have my old man to thank for turning me on to Mr. Fahey at a very young age, his tunes still take me back to a time that seems long in the past, and yet still sound just as important.
