Trans Am Video: Conspiracy of the Gods

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

The folks at Thrill Jockey dropped this new video from Trans Am for the tune Conspiracy of the Gods. Let me preface this with the fact that I am a huge Trans Am fan, their last live show here was fucking great. This video however is just stupid, boring and pointless, and that doesn’t make it “hip” (maybe it does for you). I’d rather watch them play the song in rehearsal or something, than this cliche bunch of really ACTION PACKED clips that probably intentionally make no sense…Some sections are in slow motion, or backwards, let the video revolution begin. The hilarious Neil Hamberger lends hisself to it, maybe in a last ditch attempt to try to add credibility? Am i wrong? Is this a work of pure genius? I get the fact that there is some parody and perhaps mockery of the themed type video, but so what, this is less interesting. Feel free to let me know. Where’s the damn car crash and the extraneous explosions! The song itself ROCKS as you’d expect and I am really looking forward to the show here this month.

Just to prove I am not a complete video cynic here is an example of a really good band video…too bad the song blows…it’s really bad…so bad it’s hard to make it through the video…but the video is cool. Mathmute or whatever their name is no doubt owe a nod to Spike Jones for this Pharcyde video for Drop which is much more bearable to listen to…

Heavy Metal In Baghdad

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

I just stumbled across this really great video series from VBS.TV called Heavy Metal In Bagdhad. The story goes that Vice magazine had published an article with Iraqi metal band Acrassicauda right after the US invasion and subsequent melee. In Fall of 2006 the cofounder and another Vice mag producer decided to go to Iraq and meet the band…This is the story.

Hyperactive - Lasse Gjertsen

It starts with the hair…and it really takes off after that! This kid’s from Norway and he creates music with his “hyper” editing video skills, and he’s quite good at what he does. Check out this other video with piano and drums.

Rectik Blotus Interview

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Rounding out todays Comedy of Metal posts is this Propagandist exclusive interview with the extremely elusive Floridian death metal pioneers Rectik Blotus (most excellent logo here). The interview is hilarious and Rectik Blotus is definitely poised to uh BLOW THE FUCK UP real soon as stated by FreshJive interviewer Eric Stricker.

Check out the free MP3 of their pop hit “Bowel Massacre Part 1″. It’s a Two part massacre, but they probably should have called them both part 2…

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Man, watching all that HOT SHREDDING by Michael Angelo made me want to pick up the old axe and cut loose with some vicious fret destruction…but oh wait i can’t play guitar (not like that anyway, it’s a genetic thing). Thank the Gods of Shred for creating this AWESOME flash game…watch the intro then go back to “home” link and try “Magic Carpet Tour”. Soon Ye shall be ready to conquer “The Mountain of the Tapping Dwarves”. Be prepared to waste a few hours…it’s addictive.
