Blonde Redhead: Video for 23…it’s easy

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

It’s easy to make and engaging video when your singer is…easy on the eyes, and Kazu Makino is certainly that (and no it’s not the same suave dude on guitar and drums, they are twins!). I had sort of written this band off a while back, but my musical comrade Tom reintroduced me to them a few years back via the Misery is a Butterfly album. That album was a real gem filled with mature pop songs that were both complex in construction and beautifully executed. Kazu had been in a horrible accident…with a horse, and the Misery album was completed after years of recovery on her part, and alot of the lyrical content was related to the event. It’s been a few years since that album, and the new album “23″ finds them exploring new themes. Some of the strength of Blonde Redhead certainly comes from the fact that they can mix up the vocals, and share the songwriting. Initially they wanted to go it on their own, however this lead to some internal struggles in writing the new album, ego clashes occurred, and halfway through they brought in producer Richard Froom to…mediate (a key role for producers). Check out this first video release and pick up the new album. They have also followed the growing trend of releasing a song for you to remix, which is really pretty fun. Visit the website link below and you can download a Garageband (or mp3’s of individual tracks) version of “Signs Along the Path”.
