So you’ve probably heard about the numerous RIAA lawsuits and the money people have been paying them in settlements. This is good right? they are just protecting the Artists royalties and obviously since this money is COMPLETELY based on profit (they are suing on an assumption of purchase) it is going back to the Artists right? Wrong…The major labels have negotiated large settlements with numerous websites and now the artist’s management is wondering where their cut is? They are considering filing suit to retrieve their money in what would have to be considered an ironic twist.
“They will play hide and seek, but eventually will be forced to pay something,” Azoff said. “The record companies have even tried to credit unrecouped accounts. It’s never easy for an artist to get paid their fair share.”
